Interesting facts about parrots in Japan
Wild parrots are a common sight in tropical and sub-tropical regions but they are becoming more and more of a regular sight in Tokyo City. This is largely because of the exotic bird trade of the 1960s and 1970s when many Japanese bought parakeet parrots as pets. Some have escaped and many were eventually set free and they’re numbers have since been multiplying.
The wild parrots in Tokyo are a mix of different species, including both Indian ring-necked and rose-ringed parakeets. They are often seen in parks and gardens, and can sometimes be heard calling out to each other with loud, screeching cries.
