Interesting facts about Antarctica
The Showa Station is a permanent Japanese research station that was built in Antarctica in 1957. This particular research station has made appearances in popular culture with two of the most recent examples being the 2019 movie Godzilla: King of the Monsters and a Japanese anime series called ‘A place further than the universe’.
Interestingly, there is a second Japanese research station on the Antarctic, known as the Dome Fuji Station, and it’s from here the Japanese will drill nearly 3,000 meters to extract ice as old as 800,000 years old in order to study how earth’s climate changed over the last 1 million years.
